Deficit relief must not invite complacency

The sharp improvement in Botswana’s fiscal position is welcome evidence that the economy may finally be finding firmer ground after a difficult period. These green shoots, however, must be treated as breathing space for reform rather than proof that the country’s economic troubles have passed.
