Dear Madam Speaker Kokorwe

It is very unusual to write open letters to you Madam Speaker. But circumstances have forced us to take that route. Ordinarily, the Speakership of any country is a preserve for men and women of integrity. It is a privilege to serve as the Speaker of the National Assembly of any given country, Botswana included.

In most cases, the position is given to old people because in our culture wisdom of age is better than the pride of youth. We are not saying the youth cannot serve in that position with aplomb. Our submission is that in most of the cases, the position is reserved for a very experienced politician of the ruling party. 

Madam Speaker, when you succeeded Margaret Nasha some decried that the move was the death of the independent Legislature. We keep our opinion about your leadership qualities to ourselves.
