Crusade against tyranny should be even-handed

President Ian Khama continues to wade into the internal affairs of other states, particularly African countries that he deems to be ruled by dictators.

The latest is his attack on Sudanese President Omar al Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of crimes against humanity.  Al Bashir has denied playing any part in the Darfur War that should warrant the charges against him.  The matter has divided the African Union, some of whose members regard the ICC as a selective institution that targets African leaders.

The ICC may believe it has a strong case against al Bashir.  On the other hand, AU members who are against al Bashir's indictment may also have cogent reasons.  But the Sudanese leader is admittedly difficult to defend.
