Costly poor planning at MoESD yet again

The revelation that about 3,000 teachers, mainly primary school teachers, are set to go on study leave all at once is disturbing.

While the development primes teachers for higher earnings and progression up the civil service ladder, we fear for the education of our children in the short to medium term. While this scenario will definitely create 3,000 new jobs for the duration of the teachers' training period, the high number of new teachers in the classrooms could disturb the learning rhythm of the pupils who had been accustomed to a certain way of teaching by their regular teachers.

The ministry says the development could not wait any longer as the change in syllabus required teachers to be trained urgently. The change of syllabus should not appear like it suddenly fell out of the blue, catching everyone by surprise and costing government millions of Pula.
