Congratulations Fani but . . .

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, David Fani, has had a tumultuous time at the helm of the national soccer body. He has often endured vitriolic attacks from some critics who view his leadership as weak.

Indeed, preceding months have been full of goofs at the BFA for which Fani has been chided, especially when he failed to take action. But as his house burns, Fani finds himself rewarded with a plum post at the regional soccer body, COSAFA, where he has just become an additional member.

As the adage goes, Fani is a leader without honour in his homeland. But that will matter little for now as he focuses on his new role at COSAFA. Fani's new appointment is pertinent for Botswana, which has been without a representative there since Ishmael Bhamjee stepped down in disgrace.
