Condolences TAFIC

A black curtain has fallen on the football fraternity following the death of Phillip Dayton and Peter Modisenyane who perished in a road accident near Palapye early Sunday morning. The duo were returning to Francistown after watching their team lose 3-2 to Gaborone United in an exciting Premier League game played at the National Stadium in Gaborone on Saturday night.

It is a pity that TAFIC have lost their beloved sons who were committed to the cause of the team. Their death comes only a few weeks after another football son, Shono 'Madonsela' Ngaka died after a long illness. It is disturbing that football continues to lose people who are committed to the game. There is no doubt that Dayton and Modisenyane were proud members of Matjiminyenga and deserve to be accorded a burial equivalent to what is given to soldiers who die while serving their country in a war. While everybody might be wondering as to why they decided to travel back to Francistown after 11pm, we should appreciate that it is only God who knows the answer.

However, the death of the TAFIC officials should serve as a warning to everyone, that travelling at night is risky. The driver is said to have lost control of the car and that must have been because he was probably tired. Clubs should make arrangements for those travelling to spend the night where the teams are playing (especially for night games).
Turning to TAFIC players and technical team, they should give their officials a memorable goodbye by winning the coming games convincingly, especially at home. To most of TAFIC players, Dayton was like a parent and his death has come at a time when the team is on the rise. Earning a Top Eight finish would be a good achievement and wherever they will be, the duo will rest in peace.
