Cellphone companies need to be more transparent

At a recent Kgotla meeting in Tlokweng, a cellphone company sought permission to erect more masts of cell phone towers to extend their coverage for the convenience of customers, as well as to increase their profit.

However, they met stiff resistance from the Batlokwa tribe who repeated concerns raised at previous Kgotla meetings elsewhere, in which safety concerns were raised.

As we write this commentary, there is a case before our courts emanating from the fear of what these towers could be releasing or producing into the air, which may be harmful to people nearby.
