BMD should bring its house to order

The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) has been of late dominating newspaper headlines for all the wrong reasons. It is clear that one of the youngest political parties in the country is at war with itself. Inner party democracy at the BMD has been thrown under the bus.

The national executive committee (NEC) is divided. There are two strong camps, one aligned to Nehemiah Modubule/ Gilbert Mangole faction and the other to Ndaba Gaolathe/Wynter Mmolotsi group. The bone of contention in the BMD is the readmission of Sydney Pilane in the party.

The faction led by chairman Modubule and secretary general Mangole is pro Pilane. Those led by the top two executive members want nothing to do with one of the party’s founding members.
