BMC should look for other markets

Last week, the minister of Agriculture Patrick Ralotsia revealed that the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) is working hard to look for other markets for its beef.

In his statement to Parliament, requesting for his ministry’s billion Pula recurrent budget, Ralotsia said that the BMC has already sent test consignments to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.

These consignments will surely be appreciated and hope is that more will be sent to the mentioned areas in the near future. In fact, the news is encouraging especially in these hard times of drought that has hit the southern Africa region. We hope that the BMC will also secure markets in Nigeria where Lagos State alone is said to consume at least 20,000 cattle of beef on daily basis.
