Big up GCC for reigniting renaming debate

Last week we reported on the Gaborone City Council (GCC) councillors unanimously passing a resolution to ask the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) to rename the University of Botswana after the late opposition leader Kenneth Koma.

When debating the motion, the capital city civic leaders argued that it was important for the ministry to rename some schools and tertiary institutions after people who had played a important role in Botswana’s education.

The resolution has caused a public debate, with some arguing that there were more important issues to talk about than this.
