BDP win is another wake-up call for the opposition

Batswana have given the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) another mandate. We congratulate the BDP on its convincing win.

We are particularly elated with the statement made by President Khama when he announced at the Old Naledi victory rally that while his party was savouring the sweet win, he will waste no time in seeing to it that his cabinet and MPs and the entire government get back to work immediately.

Batswana have generally elected the BDP because they believe it can deliver on the promises it makes. It is time to make good on these promises. Although the BDP won convincingly, we observe that it nearly stumbled on the eve of the elections. We want to implore the BDP leadership to ensure that it responsibly solves its problems. It will be wrong to assume that because Batswana have given the BDP a fresh mandate, they will not be concerned about the internal stability of the party. If these are not addressed in an amicable manner, the credibility of the BDP could be eroded.
