Addressing the world body on Monday, Outlule observed that African countries are endowed with natural resources whose revenues are the mainstay of the economies of such countries and as such they should be allowed to harness and exploit their resources without being inhibited by conditionalities.

The Botswana envoy also made a passionate presentation on Botswana's success story and how the country's resources have been exploited to meet the common good. While Botswana's story may serve as a lesson to other countries in Africa, particularly, the provision of health, care and education among other benefits, there is an nagging question regarding equitable distribution of resources when one looks at the growing gap between the rich and the poor, in a country that is touted as Africa's shining example of democracy, good governance and the rule of law!
