A red-letter day for our judiciary system

The case between Botswana Democratic Party Secretary General, Gomolemo Motswaledi, and the party President, Ian Khama, has become a matter of public concern because whatever findings come out of it will have a direct bearing on the political future of this young nation.

So on Wednesday Batswana of all ages, shades, political affiliations and social backgrounds thronged the High Court at Lobatse to hear the deliberations. All eyes were on the Judiciary of our country to prove to the public that it can deal with matters before it in a transparent and efficient manner. Doubts had been cast about the composition of the bench itself. However, the fact that there were debates and discussions about this matter before proceeding with the case, shows a system that works. The agreement reached between the two sides on Wednesday morning and the resulting proceedings were an excellent exhibition of our judiciary at work.
