1,000 Basarwa to be rescued from poverty

We learn with interest that government last week launched an aggressive poverty eradication programme among the country's poorest of the poor tribes, the Basarwa, precisely at Phuduhudu outside the CKGR.

This aggressive poverty eradication programme is spearheaded by President Ian Khama, who performed the opening ceremony and planting of seedlings there.

Even though Basarwa in the remote areas such as Diphuduhudu traditionally live on government handouts such as free food, and other amenities, it is clear that these traditional safety nets have over the years failed to significantly transform the lives of the rural dweller, other than providing daily food.
