They will ask us: Want went wrong?

I have observed this week as hearts have been hardened in this country-hearts within the BDP and hearts outside the BDP. See, countries are very easy to mess up but extremely difficult to re-build. Today more than ever, I feel this country is right on the brink - on the brink of saving itself or going down the drain like all others before us have. The trust bond is under immense strain, the trust between ruler and ruled is shaky- so shaky that even those within the same parties do not trust each other. This is a national crisis.

See, the postponement of the Francistown bye-election is supposed to be something that everyone with the interest of democracy at heart embraces: in principle, it is a good gesture because the same bye-election still has outstanding matters in court that necessitate it be held later than the 23rd of November. This is purely sensible.

But no, the general population-at least those who vent out- have been outright against it. They are against it merely because for them it is ‘another trick from the BDP to cheat’. See, the merit of the issue is no longer being discussed, and this is because people believe it is being done not in the public interest. Perceptions are that it is being done for nefarious reasons even though the Presidency may in fact be acting in manner that is responsible.
