Zero injury rating on the mines is achievable - PHK

SELEBI -PHIKWE: The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Ponatshego Kedikilwe has hailed the Botswana Chamber of Mines (BCM) for the improvement in the injury severity rating of Botswana mines since 2005.

"Looking at the latest statistics from BCM, I was pleased to note the 29 percent improvement in injury severity rating since 2005," the minister said at the annual Inter-Mine First Aid Competition held at the mining town's cricket club last Saturday.

In addition to Debswana's Orapa, Letlhakane, Damtshaa, Jwaneng and Morupule Colliery mines, BCL Mine, Tati Nickel Mine and BMR took part in the competition in which each mine had more than one team. Over the same period, total injury frequency rate improved by 17 percent.
