Young farmer appeals to govt for marketing support

SELEBI-PHIKWE: A young farmer, who is a beneficiary of the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) Young Farmers Fund, has called on the government to lend more support to local farmers to resuscitate the ailing agriculture sector.

Agriculture, at one point a major contributor to Botswana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), now contributes just above three percent.

Molefi Pilane runs a piggery a few kilometres south east of the mining town. He has set his sights on establishing a meat processing plant if he manages to consolidate his current business. Pilane also intends to grow his farming business to include chicken rearing to service the local market.
