World bank holds meetings with Finance ministry

The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and the World Bank Group (WBG) met on 23-24 February 2009 for consultations on the preparation for a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) meant to present the WBG's indicative programme of support for Botswana.The CPS which is linked to national development priorities will run for a five year period covering 2008/09 to 2012/13.

The WBG's programme will focus on four elements of the government's short and long term agenda that includes Infrastructure for increased competitiveness, by providing technical input and financing for critical infrastructure investments in power and transportation,
It also includes Human Development, by seeking ways to increase the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS expenditure in the country,As well as Environment, by assisting to improve water conservation and wildlife management,
A press release  from the ministry also added that amongst the elements is the  Public Sector Effectiveness for Better Outcomes by, accelerating and deepening its work on public sector management.

As the CPS consultations come against the backdrop of the international financial/economic crisis the World Bank Group also proposed to conduct a workshop on macro-fiscal issues and policy responses by Botswana to the financial crisis.
