Auctioneers Graham Phillips have declared a recent auctioning of 23 elephants in Maun a success after the jumbos fetched P653,000, an average of P28, 400 per head.

The price is three times more than the amount realised at last year's sale at which the same number of elephants was auctioned.

The auctioneers were selling the elephants for the Thamalakane Community Trust. However, the auctioneers say the difference has been the timing of the sales. Last year's auction meant losing five months of hunting because it was performed in July, which is very close to the end of the hunting season, they explain.
