Westcor project makes progress

Considerable progress has been made in the Westcor power project and a Chief Operations Officer appointed, energy ministers in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) who attended a recent meeting at the Rainbow Towers in Harare, Zimbabwe have been told.

Westcor is a joint venture power initiative involving the power utilities of Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Namibia and South Africa.
The project will exploit the Inga Rapids in the DRC to generate renewable hydro-electric power for distribution to the five countries. The Westcor project has its offices in Gaborone, Botswana.

A communiqu drafted after the meeting and posted on the SADC website notes that a Chief Operations Officer was appointed following the incorporation of the company. The meeting was also told that the project would shortly finalise its business plan, which would be presented to potential investors.
