BusinessWeek: Outside of the Doing Business Reports, what is the World Bank's opinion of the business environment in Botswana and its competitiveness?

Chikosi: Botswana has the key elements to attract private investment - stable macroeconomic conditions, good governance and rule of law, and good basic infrastructure. The strongest asset that Botswana has is rich natural resources which have been so far the main source of economic growth for the country. While the prudent management of diamond revenues made Botswana an African success story, this success might have deferred critical further reforms needed to diversify its economy beyond the mining sector.
