'Watch out,' Lippe warns competitors

Newly-appointed CEO of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC), Thapelo Lippe, has warned his competitors to "watch out" as he plans to take BTC and its cellphone service subsidiary, Be Mobile, to another level.

"There is going to be a lot of 'animation' on the market soon," Lippe said in an interview with Business Week. "People should just watch the space."
Lippe has been tasked with leading BTC to privatisation and bringing Be Mobile to an equal footing with the competition in Mascom and Orange, or better.

Though he won't say how old he is, he says people always underestimate him because he is young, but he uses that as a motivating factor to beat expectations.
"Since my time at Orange and Microsoft, there has always been pressure and doubt because I am young," Lippe says. "So I always make sure that I deliver beyond people's expectations because failure is not an option open to me."
