Volcanic ash cloud scuttles crunch EPA talks

The ash cloud emanating from an Icelandic volcano has scuppered a much-anticipated Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) meeting in Belgium between negotiating teams from SADC and their European Union counterparts.

This week, Ministry of Trade and Industry, as well as European Union officials confirmed that the meeting would now be held between May 25 and 28 in Brussels.

The meeting, which was initially scheduled for the last week of April, would have been the first time the teams met since June last year when Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique signed an interim EPA (iEPA) with the EU.
