Vehicle population maintains upswing

The number of new vehicles on the country’s roads rose by 10,395 in the third quarter of last year, quickening from 10,128 in the second, as the vehicle population maintained the upswing seen in recent years.

Department of Road Transport and Safety figures made available by Statistics Botswana this week indicated 10,395 first registrations of both new and used vehicles between July and September last year, with 75.9% of these being passenger cars.

Of the total first registrations in the third quarter, Toyota was the preferred make of choice, accounting for 48.4% of the new vehicles, followed by Mazda, Nissan, Volkswagen and BMW.
