Unemployment Threatens Attainment Of MDGs - Merafhe

Although Botswana is counted among few countries in the world for whom the attainment of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 is not out of reach, Government is worried that unemployment could hinder progress towards that end.

Speaking at the celebration of the 62nd birthday of the United Nations Organisation in Lentsweletau last Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mompati Merafhe, said a raft of factors would impede Botswana's move towards the eradication of poverty.

Merafhe said unemployment, recurring drought and HIV/AIDS were putting a huge strain on the country's limited resources.
