'Trans-Kalahari railway to transform Botswana into hub'

The proposed railway line linking Botswana's Mmamabula coalfield and the Namibian port of Walvis Bay is set to help boost regional trade and turn Botswana into a regional trade hub.

Responding to inquiries from Business Monitor last week, the Chief Communications and Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Amangwe Madisakwana, said the project would contribute to economic development of the country by means of promoting regional trade and attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Known as Trans-Kalahari Railway (TKR), the route will run parallel to the Trans-Kalahari Highway (TKH) that already links the two countries.
