The recovery was in line with the resuscitation of several tourist markets, particularly in the Western world. The industry's viability was given a boost through the release of a World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) report showing that Botswana can generate at least $1.6 billion annually from the travel and tourism sectors.

The WTTC's Tourism Satellite Account report underlined the strong fundamentals Botswana has to support tourism, which include good and extensive infrastructure, sound policies and regulations, stability and government support for the industry. The report predicted that tourism in Botswana will grow dramatically between 2010 and 2020, although the challenge remains to market the country aggressively beyond the region.
