Tiffany subsidiary opens factory in Gaborone

Laurelton Diamonds, a subsidiary of Tiffany & Co., yesterday opened a newly -constructed 3,000 square metre diamond cutting and polishing factory at Gaborone's Block 8.

The factory was built at a total cost of P36.5 million while an additional P33.3 million was used for training its own workforce to cut and polish diamonds.

According to the CEO of Tiffany & Co., Michael Kowalski, the factory was built with a focus on the future. Kowalski said Laurelton Diamonds employs 140 people in Botswana, which is less than half of full capacity. There is ample opportunity for growth, he said, and the company is eager to continue investing in training to expand its workforce.
