If President Ian Khama has his way, the government will raise alcohol prices by 70 percent on Monday in a 'bid to curb alcoholism'.

The new tax comes after the government reduced trading hours for bars, bottle stores and nightclubs.

The levy was announced by President Ian Khama after a series of public meetings around the country. He said if the 70 percent levy did not prove fruitful, a 100 percent increase will be considered.
