Study to extend BCL life beyond 2023 starts

SELEBI-PHIKWE: A pre-feasibility study to determine the viability of extending the lifespan of BCL Mine beyond 2023 has begun, the company has announced.

This follows a scoping study completed last June that suggested additional resources of 31.5 million tonnes could push the copper and nickel operation for another 12 years.

A positive outcome of the study would be good news for mine workers and their dependants and a shot in the arm for the economy of Selebi-Phikwe that is largely dependent on the mine. The study also gives hope to potential investors who have been waiting in the wings for an assessment of the future of the mine.
