Statistics Bill due in November

A Bill intended to transform the Central Statistics Office into an autonomous body is set to come before the National Assembly when the 10th Parliament sits in November.

Initially, the Bill was due to come before the Winter Parliament that was dissolved last Friday in preparation for the forthcoming general elections. However, the Bill, which has already been drafted, did not see the light of day due to the large amount of legislation the House needed to discuss prior to dissolving.

Once passed, the Central Statistics Office will become known as Statistics Botswana and will operate through a process guided by the National Statistical System that will provide principles for production and dissemination of official statistics and all related matters.
