Stanchart's conservative approach hurts its profit margins

Botswana's top three banks have now announced their results to June 30, 2009 with two managing to grow their profits except for Standard Chartered.

Pulled down by a 40-percent increase in operating expenses, StanChart's net profit for the six months to June 30 was 13 percent lower at P134.8 million.

On the other hand, while static or negative growths were expected for all banks due to the credit risks posed by the global financial crises, Barclays Bank   Botswana and First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) managed to post good results by cutting down on expenses.
