Stanchart appoints first Motswana CEO

For the first time in the 114 years of its presence in Botswana, Standard Chartered Bank will be headed by a Motswana CEO beginning in February next year.

In a media statement released on Friday, Stanchart says Moatlhodi Lekaukau will assume the reins at the country's oldest bank early next year, taking over from Michael Wiegand who has been holding the fort in an acting capacity since West Indian David Cutting left the bank late last year.

The appointment completes the full circle in the financial sector, with four of the biggest banks run by Batswana.
