SELEBI-PHIKWE: Chairman of the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council's finance committee, councillor Mogae Ketshogile, has urged the council to appreciate that the country will continue to have a budget shortfall until the recovery of the economies of developed countries who are the main buyers of diamonds.

Addressing a special full council meeting last Friday, Ketshogile urged stakeholders to understand the economic situation the country is facing. He encouraged councillors to come up with means of doing more with less. He indicated that there is still a serious shortage of funds though the country's economy has experienced a slight improvement.

He stated that Botswana relies too much on the economies of developed countries like the United States, which is currently running at a budget deficit of $1.5 trillion. "We rely much on such countries and until their economies recover, we are likely to remain with shortfalls."
