S/Phikwe loses incubator project for lack of land

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Selebi-Phikwe region has lost out on a Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) horticulture incubator project due to unavailability of suitable land.

The project was subsequently taken to Glen Valley, north of Gaborone. Speaking during a LEA breakfast meeting at Bosele Hotel here last week, LEA Incubation programme manager, Lekgotla Kgaswanyane, said the project was taken to Glen Valley because there was no land in Selebi-Phikwe.

Kgaswanyane explained that LEA tried to acquire land from BCL Mine but the piece that was offered had contaminated underground water. He said because of these complications, LEA decided to purchase land in Glen Valley where the project is currently being implemented. Kgaswanyane said the project will start with tomato processing which entails packaging, branding and sorting.
