SPEDU to become corporate entity

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Selebi-Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (SPEDU) is in the process of becoming a corporate entity wholly-owned by the Government of Botswana, Project Manager, Theodore Seemule, has said.

Addressing the media here recently, Seemule said corporatising SPEDU would give it autonomy, qualify it for budget allocation, and facilitate consulting with the relevant ministry.

This would also give businesspeople in the Selebi-Phikwe region a tangible role to play in diversifying the economy of their region. The Project Manager said in its present form, the unit was faced with challenges of lack of funds and insufficient support and buy-in by the government and political leaders in the region.
