Spectacular Botswana inaccessible to tourists: RETOSA

Botswana's tourism industry is the most unpleasant in the region in terms of reception to visitors, a Regional Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa (RETOSA) report shows.

The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila, was in Grand Baie, Mauritius for a RETOSA meeting where he received the report titled the Southern Africa Tourism Sector Performance.

The report claims that Batswana are hostile towards visitors.  "Botswana was considered the worst when it comes to accepting or welcoming tourists into the country though we are probably the best when it comes to policies," Mokaila said. The study centred on those who meet tourists when they arrive in the country such as taxi drivers, cleaners and other tourism service providers like hotel employees.
