The Minister of Finance and Development Planning estimates that the current levels of accumulated savings could carry the economy for two years as authorities brace for the increasing likelihood of another recession.

Detailing a situation he described as "some kind of panic," Kenneth Matambo said a 65 percent drop in rough diamond exports between September and December could be a precursor to adverse conditions in 2012.
