While the relocation of the De Beers Sightholder Sales from London to Botswana is widely expected to benefit the local economy, Business Monitor correspondents, KEIKANTSE LESEMELA and MPHO MOKWAPE, found that many small to medium scale entrepreneurs are either in the dark or doubtful about the historic move and its potential benefits

The relocation of De Beers Sightholders Sales, the trading arm of De Beers formerly known as Diamond Trading Company International brings with it great expectations, especially within the business community.  However in the midst of all the expectation the ordinary Motswana seems either unaware of the opportunities s/he could derive from this historic move, with most under the impression that the relocation is solely a government affair.

"We do not know anything about the De Beers Sightholder Sales relocation because we are small business operators. We are never involved in such businesses. I have never heard about it. All I know is that the DTC is coming to Botswana but I don't know when," says Boy Moses, a taxi driver at the Main Mall, Gaborone.
