SELEBI-PHIKWE: Ministry of Finance and Development Planning permanent secretary Serwalo Tumelo says the future of Selebi-Phikwe looks gloomy.

Addressing the interim executive committee on diversification after touring the airport and industrial sites last Thursday, Tumelo said Selebi- Phikwe resembled a dying town.
"If you walk around this town, you will see a place that is dying. I remember this town used to teem with workers going to the industrial sites, but now it is only a few hundred. What you see is a place that is dilapidated," Tumelo said.

He said the recently established Selebi-Phikwe Diversification Unit (SPEDU) is expected to spearhead the town's diversification drive away from mining.
