SACU, IMF meet in Windhoek

A workshop to get a common understanding of statistical systems practised in SACU states and come up with best practice is taking place in Windhoek between the Southern African Customs Union and the statistics department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The workshop, which started on Monday in the Namibian capital, is based on the statistical treatment of SACU transactions in the balance of payments, national accounts and government financial statistics of Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, and Namibia - the countries that comprise SACU.

According to a statement from the Windhoek-based SACU, the workshop is also aimed at reaching a consensus on the appropriate statistical treatment for the various financial flows and stocks in SACU countries and rationalise the  international guidelines.
