Robust diamond exports ease trade deficits

Strong diamond exports eased the country's rolling trade deficits in the first eight months of the year, enabling the fiscus to record a P752.7 million surplus in June.

The relief was significant, being only the second balance of trade surplus since October 2008, when the global recession hit local shores.

However, latest data from Statistics Botswana indicates that the value of exports against imports slipped back into deficit in July and August, at P76.5 million and P305.8 million ,respectively.
