Review Consumer Protection Act - Tema

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Director of marketing and communications at Selebi-Phikwe Regional Economic Development Agency, Wazha Tema has called for a robust consumer protection movement in Botswana.

Speaking during a consultative meeting for businesses trading in electronics last week, Tema called for a review of the Consumer Protection Act because it is not up to date with the ever-challenging consumer needs.

He called on the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs to work hard in ensuring that the Act is revised to bring it up to date.He said the Selebi-Phikwe Diversification Unit will work with businesspeople and consumers to ensure robust consumer protection. "This is the time that we should establish in Selebi-Phikwe and the region a consumer Protection Society aimed at maintaining and improving the standards of goods and services rendered to the public to promote and advance public knowledge on all matters concerning users and consumers of materials, goods and services."
