Revamped consumer fair returns

The annual Botswana ConsumerFair (BCF) will this year shift away from being strictly a spending event to feature a Youth Business Forum aimed at tackling the national challenge of unemployment, organisers say.

Held annually since 2006, the Consumer Fair is an interactive forum for retail exhibitors and their clients, taking the form of fun-filled shopping extravaganza.

The Fair is the biggest in the country with a one time high attendance of 60,000 people, thus providing the best platform for exhibitors to market their products and services, as well as conduct launches of both. Last week, however, Fairgrounds Holdings'marketing and communications manager, Thabo Mogomotsi told journalists that this year's event would go beyond its retail routine. This year's fair will be held from July 23 to 29. "In an effort to assist government address the ever increasing unemployment (rate) in the country, we have introduced a
youth business forum," she said."We have invited speakers from various financial and business mentoring institutions such as CEDA, FNB, LEA and KBL's KickStart to make presentations on various topics regarding funding
of businesses for the unemployed and out of school youth."
