Railways rehabilitation drive starts

NDOLA: The Ministry of Transport and Communication in Zambia has invited the private sector to participate in the running, rehabilitation and construction of new tracks.

This includes rehabilitating the Zambia Railways line, which is connected to the Botswana Railways through the National Railways of Zimbabwe.

Flotation of the invitation to the private sector came up recently during a workshop organised by the World Bank on large infrastructure financing in the capital Lusaka. One of the projects is the rehabilitation and extension of the Zambia Railways line from the Copperbelt to the fast-growing North Western Province, which registered about US$ 1 billion in investments last year.
