Private sector must steer clear of politics - Dewah

FRANCISTOWN: Former BOCCIM CEO, Elias Dewah, says in a democracy, the private sector must remain independent of structures of government and of politics while being an impartial economic development partner of government and other development institutions.

Dewah said this at a workshop organised by BOCCIM, the government and the European Union's Non-State Actors (NSA) Programme in Francistown this week. He was presenting on The Role of the Private Sector in a Democracy.

"The private sector, being outside the arena of politics, must present its position in a more frank manner," Dewah said. "If the private sector has a case to present to the authorities, it must do so firmly, but with respect."
