Private sector foresee improved 2013 prospects

After a sluggish 2012, businesses are generally more optimistic about the operating environment this year with companies anticipating prospects to hinge on the recovering global economy.

According to a Bank of Botswana (BoB) Business Expectations Survey (BES) carried out in September last year, confidence fell from 51 percent in the first half of last year to 47 percent in the second half but businesses are more buoyant this year with exporters more optimistic than domestic-oriented firms.

The survey, which had a sample covering 98 businesses ranging from agriculture, mining, manufacturing, water, electricity, construction, trade, transport, financial and business services, revealed that business confidence rose to 64 percent for the first half of 2013 from 47 percent in the previous half.
