Price surge prompts uranium rush in SADC

LUSAKA: Drawn by extensive uranium deposits, global mining conglomerates and other multinationals are once again flocking to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region where exploration was abandoned decades ago when market prices fell.

Now a 10-fold surge in uranium prices has led to a new rush in Africa in general and the SADC region in particular.

"Lack of exploration for the mineral in the past 30 years makes African states the most logical existing targets," says Richard Wadley, a consultant with MSA Geoservice, which assists companies in their exploration projects.
