PPADB produces "world class" training modules

The modules were produced in partnership with Supply Chain Management System (SCMS), Crown Agents and the President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Speaking at the launch in Gaborone yesterday, the executive chairperson of the procurement board, Bridget John, said the capacity-building initiative was aimed at ensuring that "there is value for money in the management of public procurement and asset disposal transactions, and that public funds are expended and accounted for in a manner that is in line with procurement statutes in Botswana".
"There are a number of challenges arising from lack of training, which include delays in procurement, poor service delivery and endless complaints and perceptions relating to the management and award of tenders," John said. She said these challenges, had prompted their partners to amend their sponsorship from humanitarian causes such as HIV/AIDS to include training procurement and asset disposal with a view to improving the efficiency in the system. John said, the board was engaging in procurement training as part of its duty to ensure that stakeholders were empowered with relevant skills for effective participation. She commended the modules, saying not only did they best embrace international practice; they have also taken the PPAD Act, regulations and policies into consideration.
