Poor visitor traffic at show blamed on strike

The unprecedented civil service strike that nearly paralysed government operations between April and June has been blamed for the reduced visitor traffic at this year's Botswana Consumer Fair.

Organisers say the show attracted over 450 local, regional and international exhibitors to the show that registered a slight reduction in visitor traffic compared to last year.  Fairground Holdings says this is inspite of an aggressive marketing drive the company adopted to ensure that visitors thronged the event.

"The fair's objectives of creating a high traffic event for exhibitors and visitors to interact were thus negatively impacted," a statement from Fairground Holdings notes.  A dipstick survey undertaken during the show revealed that the strike eroded a wealth of visitors.  In addition, the school calendar was consequently reviewed and students who would otherwise visit the show had to be in class during the event.
